Today, I played football!

Yes folks, today I did something I haven't done in nearly 10 years. I played a serious game of flag football with some 25 or so guys from my friend's church--and a few extras as well. Picture this! The field was heavy with rain...the only place there wasn't standing water, there was MUD! We scrambled for footing as we lunged and slipped and banged into one another! It was mayhem.

My team won! (24-12 I think!) I played defensive tackle, which was what I did in my college years (intramural). Our defense was quite impressive, but I don't want to take from the offense. We had one receiver, Paul, who picked off everything that came his way! He was small and nimble with good sticky hands. Chad was our options champion, and man could he barrell through 11 guys! He looked like a bull with two legs. (Think he used to be a rugby player.) Robbie threw a very accurate game-a super QB! I have to give props to Matt Wilkins for coreographing it, and inviting me out! Thanks to his recruitment and networking, our team had two full teams (offense and defense). With no need for replacements or rotation!

Folks, it was cold, it was wet, it was dirty, and it was FUN! And, there were no serious injuries. (Except for the big bruise in their pride, and the swelling of our heads.)

Which way do I go, George?

All too often, I find myself paralyzed in the details--not sure which way to turn. Lately this has been exacerbated by other pangs. Sometimes I get gripped with fear wondering if I'm destined for failure with my current career. Other times I feel overwhelmed with all the many responsibilities I'm under. Two weeks ago, I got a visit from an old friend, Dusty. He reminded me of the classic devotional My Utmost for His Highest. I had a copy that Nancy had bought for me a few years ago, and I had sporatically read. Before, the lessons seemed lofty and out of touch. Now, that couldn't be further from the truth. I think this speaks volumes of how much I need God's direction and assistance right now. I am wholly dependant on Him. Before, dare I say I was pretty much in charge of my little kingdom. It's no wonder I never let Him take care of anything. Recently, I asked Margie what it meant to "give something to God." Isn't it all His to begin with? Is that just some cliche we all use to give sage wisdom to one another? I realize now there is no easy answer for that question, only experience. Perhaps that is what the psalmist cries out for in Psalm 119 (for 120 verses). No easy answers. Only fires that refine us! That's why I love this devotional. It puts it all in perspective (God's Perspective). Pick it up if you haven't read it in awhile. It may help you through some difficult times as well.

AAA Rated baby--by Moody's of course! I'm not sure what viscous substance aided in adhering these yummy letters to Aubrey's chest, but I'll let you extrapolate that based on the shiny glimmer under her nose. Aren't babies cute?
